The Kansas Department of Corrections is conducting ongoing testing and interviews for the position of Corrections Officer I. These positions are responsible for monitoring and supervising inmates in a variety of settings, including living units, work details, and various activities such as educational and vocational training programs and recreation periods. Additional posts include duties such as perimeter patrol, control center, and providing security to staff in visiting areas, program areas and at other locations, and areas of activity throughout the facility. Positions are available in nine facilities in Kansas.

A Corrections Officer has the opportunity to receive extensive training in various aspects of corrections. As a Corrections Officer you can enjoy a successful career in Corrections, with opportunities for advancement in uniformed and non-uniformed positions (such as Corrections Counselor, Parole Officer, or Unit Team Manager).

To start your career as a Corrections Officer: you must possess a VALID, CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE, have a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED, be 19 YEARS OF AGE, and have no FELONY/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CONVICTIONS. Applicants for this position will be asked to complete a basic employment summary and related forms, and to take and pass the Kansas Department of Corrections test. Qualified applicants will have the opportunity to proceed to a structured interview and if an applicant is made a conditional offer of employment, all applicants will be asked to submit to a drug screening, physical, and background check. Starting Salary: $12.41 per hour, plus $.30 shift differential for evenings and nights.
