KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD TO SHOWCASE AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST ASSOCIATION PRO BIKES IN TOPEKA AND LAWRENCE

The Kansas National Guard will be hosting American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Bike displays at multiple locations in Topeka and Lawrence, Kan., from July 29 to Aug. 2, 2009.  The Army National Guard is the presenting sponsor for the AMA Pro Bike Series races being held at Heartland Park Topeka, July 31 and 2.

All military personal with valid ID will receive one free admission to the races.

These displays will feature the No. 54 National Guard Michael Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000 AMA Pro American Superbike ridden by Geoff May. 

Kansas Guard member and motorcycle racer, Staff Sgt. James Hubbard, will attend the events, answering questions on the Kansas National Guard’s sponsorship of motorcycle racing. Hubbard and other members will show selected equipment and discuss the Guard experience.
The displays at the following locations are all free to the public:

                    Crazy Dan Jackson will be practicing for an upcoming event in California.

Former AMA Superbike Rookie of the Year (2003), Geoff May, finished fourth in overall points in the 2007 AMA Superstock series, earned six top-five finishes including four podium finishes in nine race starts. A Georgia-native, May earned national championships in WERA, CCS and Formula USA racing before turning pro.

May earned his first and second wins in 2008 as a professional with Michael Jordan Motorsports, at Miller Motorsports Park and Road Atlanta respectively, and finished in the top 10 of every race he entered.

Staff Sgt. James Hubbard, Topeka, is sponsored by the Kansas National Guard.  He is a Division 5 Pro Bike racer and placed first in the Heartland Park Topeka Points.  Hubbard races a 2007 Honda CBR600RR.

“Crazy” Dan Jackson is a professional stunt rider and DvD producer from Olathe, Kan.  He has been riding motorcycles for over 20 years and his stunt riding has earned him accolades such as the XSBA National Championship in 2003 and the first place at Stunt Wars in 2007 for Individual Freestyle.

Steve Smithers is a 15-year racing veteran, including being a previous International Drag Bike Association super comp national champion, a top five IDBA number plate holder for five years and a six-year top 10 American Motorcyclist Association number plate holder.  Smithers will showcase his pro-extreme/pro-modified 2002 Kawasaki ZX12r drag bike and his custom Hayabusa. 

Jason Britton, an expert rider, grew up in Huntington Beach, Calif.  He is currently hosting “SuperBikes” which can be seen on Speed TV and is the Executive Editor of 2Wheel Tuner Magazine. Now a seasoned rider/entertainer, he still finds the time to collect bikes and make extreme videos. His “No Limit” riding style can be seen on many extreme videos such as “Urban Assault,” “Get On Up,” “Revolution Twenty 04.”

In addition, the Kansas Army National Guard will have numerous static displays.  The Kansas National Guard will also be providing the Color Guard for opening ceremonies on both days.
