MOTORCYCLE RACERS TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AND DISPLAY RACE BIKES/CAR

Starting Thursday, July 2, motorcycle racers will be showing up at various locations in Topeka for autographs and to display their race bikes.
Joshua Hernandez of the National Guard’s American Drag Racing League Team Red and Travis Swearingen of the National Guard’s ADRL Team Blue will be at the Bryant Career College, 1527 S.W. Fairlawn Rd., from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Hernandez, ADRL Pro-Extreme Team Red driver, is a former Houston area police officer. Hernandez has been speaking at schools and various youth-oriented functions for over 10 years. He has been recognized by several communities and school districts for his efforts.
Swearingen, ADRL Pro-Extreme Team Blue driver, is the 2006 ADRL Rookie of the Year. Swearingen is a Blue Springs, Mo., native whose father served in Vietnam. Together they now own and operate Swearingen Motorsports. Swearingen’s father serves as his crew chief.
Additionally, Kansas National Guard soldier and racer Staff Sgt. James Hubbard, along with racers Steve Smithers and Danielle Jaramillo, will bring their race vehicles to the Kansas National Guard Recruiting Office, 1710 SW Topeka Blvd, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hubbard, Topeka, is sponsored by the Kansas National Guard.  He is a Division 5 Pro Bike racer and placed first in the Heartland Park Topeka Points Series and finished in the quarter finals this past weekend at the Division 5 race in Great Bend, Kan.  Hubbard races a 2007 Honda CBR600RR.

Smithers, Topeka, is a 15-year racing veteran, including being a previous International Drag Bike Association super comp national champion, a top five IDBA number plate holder for five years and a six-year top 10 American Motorcyclist Association number plate holder.  Smithers will showcase his pro-extreme/pro-modified 2002 Kawasaki ZX12r drag bike and his custom Hayabusa. 

Jaramillo of Topeka, competes with a Super Comp Dragster 8.50.  She finished fourth in the 2008 Heartland Park Topeka Points Series and currently in sixth place for 2009.

The National Guard Bureau is sponsoring the American Drag Racing League races at Heartland Park Topeka on July 3 and 4.  Hernandez, Smithers and Swearingen will be racing at Heartland Park Topeka on both days.  Hubbard, Jaramillo and Pearson will be present with their race vehicles on display at Heartland Park Topeka and be available for autographs.

Pearson is sponsored by the Kansas National Guard.  He is a Division 5 Pro Bike racer and Heartland Park Topeka Point Series Pro Bike and currently is third place point leader.  Pearson competes with a 2003 Suzuki GSXR1000.

During theAmerican Drag Racing League races at Heartland Park Topeka this weekend, the Kansas Army National Guard will have on static display a climbing wall, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, HMMWV (Hummer H-1), the Mobile Recruiting Office and much more.  The Kansas National Guard will also be providing the Color Guard for opening ceremonies on both days.
