CAPITOL FEDERAL FOUNDATION DONATES FUNDING TO KANSAS STARBASE FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

The Capitol Federal Foundation presented the Kansas STARBASE program with a $5,000 grant. This is the third consecutive year the organization chose to contribute to STARBASE.

"We appreciate the generosity of Capitol Federal and their continued support of the STARBASE Program," said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. "It's support from organizations like this that make it possible to continue expanding our efforts to help Kansans and our communities."

“It’s a great honor to have an organization take such an interest in furthering the education of children in math, science, technology and engineering,” said Jeff Gabriel, Kansas STARBASE director.

“Donations like this help with what federal funds wouldn’t necessarily provide,” said Gabriel. “This donation will greatly help our hands-on robotics curriculum.”

The Capitol Federal Foundation was established to benefit the communities in which Capitol Federal operates. The Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life in these communities by investing in the citizens of today and tomorrow. The main areas of focus for accomplishing this mission are education, community development, the United Way and other charitable purposes.

Kansas STARBASE was launched in 1992 to ignite the interest of youth (4th -6th graders) in science, math, technology, goal setting and positive life choices by exposing them to the technological environments and positive role models of the Kansas Air and Army National Guard. STARBASE has worked with more than 32,800 of Kansas' students to increase their knowledge and interest in the areas of math, science or technology, as well as instilling a sense of pride and personal accomplishment.

The Kansas STARBASE program is the largest in the U.S. It has school-year academies in Wichita, Topeka, Salina and Kansas City, Kan. For the past five years, Kansas STARBASE has partnered with Western Kansas community colleges, Challenger Learning Center of Kansas, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University and the Kansas Cosmosphere to provide summer academies in Pittsburg, Great Bend, Liberal, Garden City, Hays, Hutchinson and Pratt.
