FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 1, 2009 No. 09-041 KANSAS EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER COORDINATES MORE SANDBAG REQUESTSSedgwick County is now among the South Central Kansas counties requesting sandbags to hold back flood waters. County officials asked for 100,000 sandbags through the Kansas Division of Emergency Management. The sandbags will be obtained from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fall River Lake, southeast of Eureka in Greenwood County. Earlier, Butler County requested 100,000 sandbags; 50,000 of those bags went to the city of Augusta, while the remaining went to the county. Harper County requested and received 6,000 sandbags. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management is continuing to coordinate operations related to the recent storms and flooding that have plagued South Central and Southeastern portions of the state. The State Emergency Operations Center remains partially activated and is staffed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. As of 8 a.m. on May 1, only the southeast region of the state continued to be under flood watches or warnings. The 23 counties still under flood advisories are:
