Kansas National Guard’s 778th Transportation Company Hosts State-Wide Open Houses

The Kansas National Guard’s 778th Transportation Company will be hosting an open house May 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at various armories across the state. This is a chance for the general public to catch a glimpse of how the National Guard serves its nation.

The open house will include a tour of the armory, and a Heavy Equipment Transport System at each location.

The following locations will be open for public viewing:

• Council Grove:  1018 Old Highway 56 – (620) 767-6118

• Manhattan:  721 Levee Drive – (785) 587-8076
• Wichita:  3535 W Douglas Ave – (316) 943-2790‎

The 778th Transportation Company is part of the 169th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. Its mission is to transport armored vehicles, heavy equipment and additional supplies. The 778th was started in Council Grove, Kan., October 2001.

In 2004, the 778th deployed to Iraq for a year-long mission in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During state emergencies, the unit is often called upon to haul heavy equipment and generators to support response and recovery operations.
