FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dec. 31, 2008 KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD EMBEDDED TRAINING TEAM #4 RETURNING FROM AFGHANISTAN JANUARY 2Fifteen Kansas National Guardsmen will be honored at a welcome home ceremony on Friday, Jan. 2 as they return from Operation Enduring Freedom. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Kansas National Guard Armory in Manhattan, Kan., 721 Levee Drive. The armory doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The soldiers deployed in January 2008 to Afghanistan as Embedded Training Team #4 (Team Azadi). The soldiers, under the command of Maj. Robert Wood, were mobilized to Fort Riley for additional training before deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. There, they served as military advisors to the Afghan National Army to train, advise and assist in combat operations, including maneuver and tactics, logistics and administrative functions. They also supported the Afghan National Police. The Guardsmen were drawn from several units across the state, including Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas; 69th Troop Command; 1st Battalion, 161st Artillery; 1st Battalion, 635th Armor; Detachment 2, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery and 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry. -30- |
