FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 23, 2008 No. 08-107 KANSAS NATIONAL GUARDS 287th SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE TO BE HONORED
AT DEPLOYMENT CEREMONY SEPT. 26 The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Center, 336 S. Santa Fe in Salina. Approximately 260 soldiers of the unit will deploy to their mobilization station at Fort Lewis, Wash., for additional training before going to Iraq, where they will provide logistical support for U.S. and Coalition forces in their assigned area of operations. We appreciate the service and sacrifice of these soldiers and will pray for their safe return, said Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Logistics is a critical responsibility for any successful military operation, said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. Without a good logistical operation, the troops in the field dont get what they need to do their jobs. These are the soldiers that keep our military moving and taking care of business. We simply cant get along without them. The 287th Sustainment Brigade, headquartered in Wichita, is made up of the 169th Corp Support Sustainment Battalion, headquartered in Olathe; the 891st Engineer Battalion, headquartered in Iola; and the 287th Special Troop Battalion, headquartered in Hays, as well as subordinate units in each battalion. -30- |
