FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 18, 2007 No. 07-201 SOLDIERS OF THE KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD'S 1ST BATTALION, 161ST FIELD
ARTILLERY WILL BE HOME BY DEC. 23 Theyll be home for Christmas, thanks to the generosity of Kansans, who donated thousands of dollars to charter busses to bring the Guardsmen home from Texas. Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery should all be home with family and friends by Dec. 23. Busses will load up at Fort Bliss, Texas, at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22 The public is invited to come out and welcome the soldiers home at each of the stops. The bus bound for Liberal will have 49 soldiers and will be paid for by the Thunder on the Plains motorcycle rally and the American Legion Riders. The bus should arrive at the Liberal armory, 720 Armory Road, between 6 and 8 a.m. on Dec. 23. A breakfast is planned for all soldiers at the Liberal armory. This bus will then continue to Garden City and Dodge City with approximately one hour travel time between cities. It should arrive in Garden City between 8:00 and 10:00 at the Armory, 405 S Main. Arrival time at the Dodge City armory, 2120 1st Ave., will be between 9 and 11 a.m. The Lenexa bus, from Prestige Charters, will have 54 soldiers. This bus should arrive at the Lenexa armory, 18200 W 87th St Parkway, between noon and 2 p.m. The 137 soldiers returning to Wichita will be on three busses from Prestige Charters. These busses should arrive at the Sam's Club parking lot on West Kellogg between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The soldiers will return to their drop off locations the morning of January
2 in order to load the busses and travel back to Fort Bliss. Upon its
return, the unit will complete training for its mission as part of the
45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team before deploying to the Iraqi theater
in early 2008.
