FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nov. 2, 2007 No. 07-166 COCO, KANSAS NATIONAL GUARDSMAN, TO BE GUEST SPEAKER FOR VETERANS
DAY CEREMONY IN TOPEKA 1st Lt. Christopher Coco of the Kansas National Guard will be the guest
speaker at a Veterans Day ceremony in Topeka on Sunday, Nov. 11. The 11
a.m. program will be at the VFW Post 1650, 3110 SW Huntoon. The public
is invited to attend. Coco is from Courtland, Kan., and is a graduate of Pike Valley High School
class of 2000. After high school Coco attended college at Cloud County
Community College. He then attended Kansas State University where he entered
into the ROTC program and received a B.S. in Kinesiology. He was commissioned into the 1st Battalion, 635th Armor (1-635th Ar),
Kansas Army National Guard. After completing college Coco attended Mounted
Officers Basic Course at Fort Knox, Ky., and returned to the 1-635th Ar
as a rear detachment training officer. In February of 2006 Coco was selected
to be the Warrant Officer Recruiter for the State of Kansas until he was
selected to deploy as a platoon leader with the 714th Maintenance Company
to Iraq. While in Iraq Coco's Platoon executed over 150 combat logistic patrols
in Northern Iraq. Coco returned with the 714th in August of 2007 and was
selected to be the training officer for the 1-635 Ar Battalion and the
Rear Detachment Commander of the 35th Military Police Company. -30- |
