FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oct. 25, 2007 No. 07-162 HUMANITARIAN AID COLLECTED BY KANSAS NATIONAL GUARD TO BE SHIPPED
TO IRAQ NEXT WEEK Nineteen pallets of clothing, shoes, medicines, school supplies and other
humanitarian aid items will be moved from Leavenworth in preparation for
shipping the items to Iraq. The pallets will be loaded on Monday, Oct.
29 at Studdard Moving and Storage, 1200 Commercial Drive, in Leavenworth
at approximately 1 p.m. The items, weighing approximately 4,000 pounds, were collected by Guard
members, families and friends of the 130th Field Artillery Brigade, Kansas
National Guard. Lt. Col. Kirk Pederson coordinated the collection drive
as part of needs assessed during a 12-month deployment in Iraq at Camp
Victory Base Complex. "We identified early in our deployment the tremendous humanitarian
need of the Iraqi people, said Pederson. During our close
and personal interaction with the Iraqi people, we were able to witness
and experience first-hand how our families, friends, neighbors and corporate
citizens could help show that America is a giving nation." The items will be transported by airplane to Iraq by the U.S. Agency
for International Development, an independent federal government agency
that provides economic, development and humanitarian assistance around
the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States. -30- |
