FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 9, 2007 No. 07-149 FUNERAL SERVICES SET FOR KANSAS GUARDSMAN KILLED IN IRAQ Funeral services have been set for Sgt. 1st Class Travis S. Bachman who was killed in the line of duty in Iraq on Aug. 1. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 10, from noon to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. 7th, Garden City. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, 2708 N. Third St. Bachman will receive full military honors during graveside services at Valley View Cemetery following the funeral service at First Southern Baptist. Valley View Cemetery is located across the street from the church at 2901 N. 3rd St. Bachman, a member of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, Kansas National Guard, Garden City, was serving in Iraq with the 714th Security Forces, Topeka, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a staff sergeant at the time of his death and received a posthumous promotion to sergeant first class. Governor Kathleen Sebelius has directed flags to be flown at half-staff throughout Kansas from sunup to sundown on Saturday, Aug. 11 in honor of Bachman. -30- |
