FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 9, 2007 No. 07-148 GUARDSMEN TO RECEIVE STATE ACTIVE DUTY RIBBON FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE Approximately 40 Kansas National Guardsmen from Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas will receive the Emergency Response Service State Active Duty ribbon for missions carried out in response to the Greensburg, Kan., tornado and Southeast Kansas flooding. The presentation will be made on Friday, Aug. 10, at 9 a.m. in Nickell Armory, 2722 S. Topeka Blvd., Topeka. The award is presented to Kansas National Guardsmen who serve on state active duty providing support to civil authorities in response to natural and man-made disasters within the state. Some of the missions the Guard performed in Greensburg included debris removal, security and providing power generators. More awards were originally scheduled to be presented on Saturday and Sunday. However, these presentations have been postponed until a later date due to the funeral of Sgt. 1st Class Travis Bachman. -30- |
