FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Feb 28, 2007 No. 07-026 KANSAS AIR NATIONAL GUARDSMEN RETURNING FROM IRAQ Thirteen members of the 184th Security Forces Squadron, Kansas Air National
Guard, are scheduled to return to Wichita on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007
after serving six months at Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq. The deployment was
part of an Air Expeditionary Force Deployment in support of Operation
Iraqi Freedom. "The role of the Kansas Air Guard in Operation Iraqi Freedom is
a critical one," Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, Kansas adjutant general said.
"I want to thank these airmen for their hard work and sacrifice and
welcome them back to Kansas." Students from St. Paul's Lutheran School in Cheney, Kan., grades one
through eight, supported the 184th Security Force members throughout their
deployment by sending letters, personal care items, snacks and holiday
treats. Some of those students and their teachers plan to meet the troops
as they step off the plane at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita Wednesday
at 5 p.m. "We are proud of their service and glad to have them home safely
as always," said Lt Col Lin Dehning, 184th Security Forces Squadron
Commander. "It's always gratifying to know that the training we do
one weekend a month pays off when the Air National Guard is called to
serve."
