FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 25, 2005 No. 05-059 JULY 1 DEPARTURE CEREMONY SET FOR KANSAS ARMY GUARD BATTERY Approximately 150 soldiers of the Kansas Army National Guards
Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (-) (HHB), 1st Battalion, 127th
Field Artillery will be honored in a departure ceremony set for Friday,
July 1. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, the commander in chief of the Kansas
National Guard, and Maj. Gen. (KS) Tod Bunting, the adjutant general,
will participate in the ceremony, which will take place in Lee Arena on
the Washburn University campus, Topeka, beginning at 1 p.m. The public
is cordially invited to attend and wish the soldiers well as they deploy
to Iraq. This battery normally provides a variety of support for
the other batteries in a field artillery battalion. In Iraq, these soldiers
will be providing security and force protection. Even though they wont be engaged in their primary
mission, our soldiers are well-trained and very versatile, said
Maj. Gen. (KS) Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. No matter what
they are tasked to do, they do it well with complete dedication. Were
all proud of their service and wish them Godspeed. Maj. Noel Grubb of Ellinwood, Kan., is the commander of
HHB Forward. In his civilian job, he is a teacher at Great Bend Middle
School, Great Bend, Kan. The battery will mobilize to Fort Lewis, Wash., where they will go through additional training and preparation before deploying to Baghdad, Iraq. -30- |
