A native of Ottawa, Kansas, Dave Johnson attended the
University of Kansas and Ottawa University. He served twenty one years
with the Kansas National Guard, retiring with the rank of captain.
Service with the Ottawa Police Department in 1952 and service as
investigator for the Kansas attorney general’s office, 1955-1964,
preceded his appointment as special agent with the KBI in February,
1964. A graduate of the Southern Police Institute, he retired from the
KBI in April, 1984. However, following a three year stint as
investigator with the Kansas Insurance Department, he returned to the
KBI in July, 1987, appointed as director of the KBI by Attorney
General Robert Stephan. He served as KBI director until December,
1989. Today, Director Johnson resides in Topeka and serves as director
of security for the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. |
