Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI).  WEDI's vision is to improve healthcare through E-commerce and to foster widespread support for the adoption of E-commerce within healthcare. This site includes information on electronic data interchange in the health care industry, lists of meeting and educational conferences, and the availability of resources for standard transactions. WEDI also supports the HIPAA Strategic National Implementation Process Task Force. WEDI/SNIP is a collaborative healthcare industry-wide process resulting in the implementation of standards and furthering the development and implementation of future standards in order to comply with HIPAA.

US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The DHHS site is a convenient way to access the HIPAA legislation directly. There are other resources as well.

American Hospital Association (AHA).  The AHA has worked for years with Congress and the Administration to address issues critical to health care provider organizations in the development and implementation of these information systems standards. AHA has mounted a major association-wide initiative to position members to implement these new requirements efficiently and effectively.

National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO). NAHDO is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to strengthening the nation's health information system. NAHDO serves as a broker of expertise for the development and enhancement of statewide and national health information systems. NAHDO brings together a network of state, federal, and private sector technical and policy leaders and consultants to expand health systems development and shape responsible health information policies.

This is an excellent starting point to learn about the basics of Administrative Simplification and specific legal requirements.

Medicare (Medicare EDI) - This is the official Medicare website that contains important information about how providers can communicate electronically with the Medicare program. This site contains EDI formats and instructions, transaction mapping information, statistics, FAQs about Medicare EDI, and other valuable EDI data.

Medicaid HIPAA Information - including Medicaid HIPAA Plus, the Medicaid HIPAA-Compliant/Concept Model, Informational briefs, Implementation tools, and National Medicaid EDI HIPAA Workgroup Information.
