Kansas Criminal Justice Recodification, Rehabilitation and Restoration Project

3Rs Committee Mission Statement

To address growing problems within the Kansas criminal justice system regarding offenders, the Legislature created the Kansas Criminal Justice Recodification, Rehabilitation and Restoration Project.

Comprised of various stakeholders and leaders within the criminal justice system, the Kansas Criminal Justice 3Rs Project Committee was created to examine ways to place justice back into the Kansas Criminal Code. The 3Rs Committee will address increasing levels of mental illness and behavioral health issues, including drug abuse, within the criminal justice system. The 3Rs Committee will identify ways to rehabilitate offenders before they are released, and will prepare offenders and communities for their inevitable reentry into society.

The efforts of the 3Rs Committee should result in a reduction in recidivism, a reduction of crime, a restoration of offenders to their families and communities resulting in a healthier and safer society for all Kansans.
